About The Department

The Master of Social Work Programme (MSW) was established by Rev. Dr. G. Lawrence Amalraj S. J., in the academic year 2009-2010 with a view to address psycho-social problems of people in a professional manner, with a special reference to the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. It has two specializations namely, Community Development (CD) and Human Resource Management (HRM). Social work, in general, is targeted at interventions for social support and for developmental, protective, preventive and/or therapeutic purposes.

SCOPE

Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline which promotes social change, problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance well-being. Utilizing theories of human behavior and social systems, social work intervenes at the points where people interact with their environments. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work.
